On Friday 13th December 2013 a group from St.Finbarr’s Boys N.S. attended the first Water Forum in Cork. The event was held in Scoil Mhuire Fatima, North Monastery Road, Cork. Our green team included Ms.Herlihy, Ms.Sheedy, Paddy O’Neill, Ted Wiseman,Niall O’Keeffe and TJ Sullivan. We had to think of a team name so, we became “The Waterboys.”
The forum gave us the opportunity to get some new ideas from schools that are also working on the Water Theme. Pupils from the North Mon. Green Schools Committee gave a presentation about their journey in achieving the 3rd Green Flag. We looked at their Green Schools Noticeboard and went outside to see the water butts. These are also known as rainwater tanks, which collect and store rainwater runoff, typically from rooftops via drainpipes. Afterwards, each group had to design their “ideal water school” and discuss what it would look, sound and feel like.
We were given some healthy snacks, played some fun games and given a a goodie bag at the end of the forum. We picked up some really great tips and ideas.
We would like to thank Green Schools, An Taisce and Irish Water for a great day.
